He read the bull Terrier puppy. Make sure
you're subscribed to my channel and pick up a copy of my book, it will show you
how to teach your dog anything you could ever want to hear you now much time I
spent on my hair today.
Exercise is so important for dogs and we can
very often be the difference between a perfectly behaved pop and one that
destroys every possession you have the puppies and young dogs have very special
needs and restrictions relative to older dogs when it comes to the type of
exercise that say for them today were to cover what you need to know to keep
your dog exercised, no matter their age.
I get a
lot of questions about the artwork in the background of my videos and many of
you asked me where it comes from all of these prints hear from I canvas.com.
I'm a really huge fan of Jean Russo's artwork.
What I
really love about the Russo is how he captures the eyes of the dog and they
seem so authentic and so genuine.
Bruce is
a huge fan of hip goals and tipple advocacy only after you fall in love will I
tell you I will tipple anyone who's ever loved.
The
piffle will relate with that and Dean Russo feature so many different breeds.
You can find hundreds of Russo dog Prince that I canvas.com.
This is
the first gallery wall that we've ever made and I was just stunned by the
difference that it made in the room.
It really
changes the look and feel of everything this is by Iris Scott and she does some
of the most dynamic painting she actually finger paints all of this artwork and
this one is called swimming in the creek.
To me it
looks just like an original, one of the more famous paintings that shaken off
the blues and this looks so alive right now.
Remember
they got all kinds of rates they literally have hundreds and hundreds of
different pieces to choose from RTA. Let's play kissing usually try to kiss an
alligator got one.
You've
heard me say that exercise is the absolute best way to prevent and resolve
unwanted and destructive behaviors will know that puppies are little time bombs
of unwanted and destructive behaviors waiting to explode. So it's super
important to make sure that they have an outlet for all that energy if you want
to protect your house and your sanity Caesar.
These
things called growth plates that are basically soft parts at the end of long
bones and young dogs which allow bones to become longer, the growth plates
eventually get thinner and close on average growth plates close around the age
of 18 months, with most dogs work up to 24 months with larger breeds.
So in
between that time. It's really important to make sure that you're very
conservative when it comes to exercising your dog or else you don't think you
have to let go of the look at her she's friendly keepaway when I try to get the
ball.
That's a normal thing that dogs do and are
trying to teach a batch. That's why it's so important when you're doing thatch
training that you have your dog on a leash in the beginning so that they can
get away from you.
Obviously
she wants to keep the ball. I understand that kiwi on the dog trainer here is
for selectively asking to level we need teachers that when you let go of it.
I'll give it right back in by having them unleash you're able to kind of work
them through that logic.
The most
important thing to do first is talk to your vet about your puppies.
Individual exercise needs. You need to take
into account the vaccination status to know when they can safely go to places
frequented by other dogs as well as her physical ability.
Some
breeds or types of dogs need extra special consideration when it comes to their
exercise limits your vet will be able to do some x-rays so that you can confirm
that your dogs growth plates of closed.
But while
you're waiting for them to grow up. What kind of exercise can you do with them.
A general rule of thumb is five minutes of exercise at a time up to two times
per day for every one month of age.
So if
your puppy is two months old. They can exercise for 10 minutes at a time up to
twice a day. And if your puppy is six months old.
They can
exercise for up to 30 minutes at a time, two times per day, then you should
avoid long walks a repetitive exercise with puppies.
Really the best and safest type of play with
young dogs like this is self-directed play war replay that's basically we just
let them do their own thing.
Puppies
are pretty good at staying active in knowing the limits so when your puppy
decides to break let them have it.
That
said, sometimes puppies can get a little too wild and crazy. Nothing like you,
of course, but if you notice that your dog is doing flip somersaults or body
slams, then it's probably a good idea to intervene.
Give them
a bit of a break and then encourage them to play a little bit later once I
calmed down a bit.
Even
though you shouldn't take long, sustained walks with your puppy taking them out
for walk and letting them explore their own pace is a really fantastic idea.
Time
spent exploring and playing in your backyard is awesome.
But it's also important to get your puppy out
and let them experience lots of new exciting environments to you should
sprinkle in some short training sessions on simple obedience while in these new
places in between walking and playing.
This will
really set your puppy up for success later puppies.
This
young usually really struggle outside because of all the sense in the
distractions.
She yes
give me nice work she's doing so well on her outdoor training.
But the younger your puppy is the more time
they should be given to just explore on their own and experience the world
rather than just insisting on vigorous play or training any time your puppy
looks tired.
Let them
rest and always keep an eye in your puppy and prevent them from doing the
excessive or high jumping like jumping off of the furniture jumping up for a
toy.
So we are
playing with the young dog you want to keep your puppy low to the ground so
your playing tug with them.
For
example, keep that tongue to a load of work you're playing with a ball rolling.
Instead
of throwing this is one of my favorite moves to ignite a dog's interest in the
tug toy or other toy that real rapid shake see that it's really handy because
it keeps them focused on the ground rather than jumping up.
It really
seems to make a lot of dogs want the toy even more if you're struggling with
getting your dog interested in the tug toy tried to wiggle.
She's
biting her leash. Right now I want to discourage that because this is not a
proper toy. Let's see if we can get her voluntarily to stop chewing the leash
and bite this that was attempting to pull it out of their mouth.
You want
to really see if you can get them to organically make the decision to get that
little move really competing with something.
It is
like not one that you this but you can see she's really thinking about it see
that yes I say I see that now had a strong tug now got her attention on the toy
in her attention on me.
So this
is doing a couple of things.
Not only
are we getting her onto the toy but were also showing her that hey you play
with me. It's a lot more exciting.
I can
direct you and I can show you a lot more things knowing how to exercise your
dog, especially if they're energetic is such an important part of raising them
click thumbs up for kiwi.
