Follow me
on Instagram and Facebook to one thing you can do right now to help homeless animals
or simply change the way you buy dog food for every box shipped little donated
full of foods would need to close innovative system makes your life easier,
they let you choose your brand of dog food and how often you wanted to be
delivered.
I have my food shipped every two weeks.
Looking
ahead to our local shelter. Check out a few dogs and see what we can learn
about because of the recent flooding here in southern Louisiana.
Many dogs
have found themselves homeless and we want to get those dogs on to a happy
life. As soon as possible.
A key
part of getting these dogs into a better situation is first understanding the
personality and what type of home is best for them to evaluate a few dogs and
offer my take on what I think they'll need out there forever home looking for
things like energy level.
The dogs
willingness to engage in training and more today letting really impacted the a
lot of dogs coming from other animal shelters they've been flooded or they been
impacted themselves over 40,000 holes impacted by this last I heard it's really
best for the family and the dog.
If their needs and wants are compatible. You
want to get them out quickly, but you also want to get them out to the right
thing right we do need some help writing some bias because were not dog
trainers are nonprofessionals so we try our best but sometimes it's hard to
match those families up with the right side of the dog is today.
It's
about what they can learn tomorrow for some reason. First thing I like to do
when I meet any dog is just get them at ease immediately smell me let them get
comfortable and stilettos check out the environment.
Check me
out. It comfortably looks of these we know about. He was surrendered to the
shelter, probably about three weeks ago.
He's just a really sweet dog.
We all
know is typically reserved like this in your experience, and sometimes he gets
really excited and he can't control himself, but other times he's like this
that's very typical of what I like to call level II dog.
I typically write dogs level I, two or three
based on energy level because energy levels is one of the fastest ways.
The size
of the dog and determine the right for certain situations.
Level II
dogs are awesome for most people really want to be engaged with training, but
don't want to dog's super one of the first things I like to assess for his dogs
willingness to look at me in the eyes.
I can get a dogs eyes on me. That tells me I'm
in a better position to communicate with them.
Traditional
trading focuses on really popping the lease short of jerking Lisa Leo dog pay
attention dogs eyes on you voluntarily so much more authentic gives you lot
better results down the road.
He's got
great eye contact is meters. He follows the Lord falls a little bit here he
goes back and forth.
That just
means it will be easier to guide him with the tree.
Another
good indicator as to what dogs ability as their play drive are they willing to
engage promptly in a game of tug-of-war did they do it often on really lighting
up getting happy by this tug toy.
Even if
he was in a way that we find to life for so important when dogs play with a
person so much more rewarding than say just playing with another dog but
there's something about playing with people that seems to really satisfy dogs
in a way that nothing else does work to be one of the most powerful rewards or
currencies for Dawn that there is now the dog really is overly enthusiastic
about, so that also may be an indicator that they can be particularly high
maintenance is a lot a lot of energy strikes me as a middle-of-the-road dog who
would do well.
Most
families really want to have a dog and spent a lot of time with the dog and do
some basic training with them pulling out a couch potato, but is not
necessarily a really high-energy.
diving
agility dog either know you mentioned that he seemed good for most homes.
When you think about kids, I see nothing here
that would lead me to believe that he wouldn't do well with kids, but obviously
any family should be careful with any dog, particularly if they have young
children but if you had say 10 to 15-year-old kid in the house who was really
interested in engaging the dog and really interested in teaching every our next
she was surrendered to the shelter not to long ago she had a bite history with
an young child in her household, and we don't know the details really
surrounding that now, oftentimes in that particular situation.
It's just
because a child was a bit overbearing, particularly young children if there if
they're not really introduced properly.
That
said, give me that whiny little bit of anxiety.
She is
your experience with her and you notice that she gets a little anxious, like
she's like, it seems that she's a little bit shy.
Okay,
she's demonstrating a lot of body language here that indicates she's not
extremely comfortable.
I want to see if the tug toy right now my
gases.
She's a
little anxious not totally in play mode right now she's more interested in what
that's going on around here that she's very interested in toys.
What
other exercises would you recommend she may or may not be interested in toys
because she's nervous right now is not necessarily an indicator that she
doesn't like to play.
However,
if that is the case, you know, walking is always a good way to exercise overly
energetic either under breakouts and treats here again just to see if I can let
her know that great things happen when she's in this priority is getting them
comfortable not getting in the six day you can see she does follow the Lord
even in this anxious mindset.
She still
she nice work now yeah what angel you eat good girl, good eye contact when you
get for your attention.
Her anxiety seems to subside life that
something about anxious dog a lot of tension.
That's
why more season families got some experience with those would probably be more
ideal for you can see that her anxiety level is coming down even just in a few
minutes we got around here, which is a good sign. It is, I anticipate that
she's getting anxious dog a lot of situations for when she's around us.
How did
Mason come into the Nathan came from a backyard breeder that had too many dogs
look how eagerly he follows this Lord I like to see how willing he is look at
me in my eyes's shop is doing great.
What's
really good so he is light on the thing about energetic thoughts like this.
It's all
or nothing.
You put in the time with them.
You have
an amazing dog or you don't and you have issues because dogs like this really
tough to teach.
If you
don't get their energy on a regular basis. I like to see how he used to play
now as suspected, he is all about.
He's
right in the war and he's right into the game some more after eating turkey,
which is really interesting as I like to call dual currency. If a dog will work
for treats and work for play in the same exact training session that indicates
a very trainable most yet is the reason for that is when dogs are like eating
something really good to come closer desire to fight play you a lot of tools
training a dog growling to see them leave out late telling us about no
intentional echo by just making up warning them when he lets go right back to
you let go.
You get
to play you don't think it's boring. It's good to see that you just a second
let go is when the season frustrates so many people was one of the easiest
things to teach really this into a tree right here and what would some dogs
that make well there desire to play to work with other dogs who are willing to
engage in play and treats in the same training session, get right back into the
game just immediately so for some dogs that's a good idea for other dogs not so
much looks like it is a Monday and held it always really good about such a
friendly guy.
Overall
wants to play. She's got incredible athleticism and endurance.
And if he
ends up in a family that is willing to exercise them 30 minutes to an hour a
day five days a week.
The
public and experienced a lot of problems with them, but if they do this talk
just about anything you bring our next on this Twinkie hello Twinkie tree
theater comfortable.
She is a displaced dog from the planning. She
came in with two of her puppies look like a swell with the beard.
She
definitely is willing to follow that Lords should be an amazing trip dog with
how eagerly she follows that all guys who cares what you can do.
It's important you when you are teaching the
dog to look at you especially don't know them very well to exercise some
caution.
You don't just want to get up in their faces.
They look at me, but you know if they're happy like this and they seem to be
obedient.
I
wouldn't like what that is probably dog discouraged jumping.
I keep trying to lure her into a sitting she's
not immediately taken to that site visits communicated by backed up.
I like
that that's better than jumping some reported myths about rewarding behaviors
you like, rather than correcting behaviors is right there so she automatically
set some dogs will do that capturing behavior for dog just automatically offers
yes right there you can see she started to learn to like this like to assess
for play drive now so she's not necessarily interested in war.
She is
interested in playing and running around and that's really good sign of a dog
that likes to engage people engage in training all the dogs we met today would
make great hats for the right families and that's really the most important
thing.
Just make
sure you take your time and be patient and put some thought into your choosing
your new pad.
Sometimes
it takes spending a few days with the dog to see if the right for you or even
longer look shelters will be just fine with fostering a dog if you want to take
your time shelters here in southern Louisiana have been experiencing so many
homeless dogs coming in lately.
Definitely a copy of my book, it will show you
